The Korea International Cooperation Agency has pledged its support towards a special project for eco-friendly disposal of solid waste in the Uva and Northern Provinces. The amount expected to be incurred therefor is Rs.10.6 million. This total amount is a grant given to our country by the Government of Korea. This Memorandum of Understanding was signed (04.12.2024)  by Mr. S.Alokabandara, Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government with Mrs.Kim Myungjin, the Country Director for Korea International Cooperation Agency in Sri Lanka and Mr.Sampath Bandara, Director General of the External Resources Department at the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government.

These lands have been identified by an environmental study conducted throughout a period of two years and steps will be taken under this programme to construct two waste disposal yards in the Meegahakiwula area in Badulla and in Vavuniya. Infrastructure facilities such as roads, electricity etc. are due to be developed through these projects, thereby expecting to uplift the lives of the residents of the area as well as creating indirect job opportunities. Officials of the Ministry as well as officials of the Korea International Cooperation Agency were present at this occasion.
