The Sri Lanka Institute of Local Government, which has a long history of twenty-four years, is the only institution that trains members and officers of local government institutions, said the Deputy Minister of its Executive Committee, Mr. Ruwan Senarath. The local government system that provides better service to the country can achieve better quality results by being organized in a more systematic and orderly manner, and it is expected to create a process that can unite the village and the city, and he said that the work plans for this have already been prepared.
The Deputy Minister also announced plans to hold Provincial Council elections by March 2025, with many preparatory activities being carried out through this institution.
Additionally, he instructed the relevant authorities to inspect the eight-storey building of the Sri Lanka Institute of Local Government. The construction of this building, initiated in 2013, was left incomplete due to financial irregularities. The Deputy Minister called for an investigation into the building’s construction and necessary measures to address the issues.
The event was attended by the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government, Mr. S. Aloka Bandara; Additional Secretaries to the Ministry, Ms. Maheshika Kodippiliarachchi, Mr. Nishantha Karunathilaka, and Mr. H.M.M.J.M.
