A discussion was held at preliminary level chaired by Hon. Janaka Wakkumbura State Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government on 07.02.2024 at the auditorium of the State Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government, for converting Ratnapura into a city of tourist attraction.

Building a park near the Nanda Ellawala statue in Ratnapura, a children’s park near the Ratnapura District Secretariat, modernization of the present vehicle park and establishment of a modern sanitation system at the Ratnapura Sabaragamu Maha Saman Dewala and establishment of infrastructure facilities for the Pompekale Park, which is presently the first urban park in Sri Lanka, were proposed at this discussion.

A group of Government officials including the Chief Secretary of the Sabaragamuwa Province and officers, Mr. Nishantha Karunathilaka, Additional Secretary of the State Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government and Director General of the Urban Development Authority were present at this occasion.
